Covam 5/160 mg Tablet – Dual-Action Blood Pressure Control

Covam 5/160 mg is a prescription tablet combining Amlodipine (5 mg), a calcium-channel blocker, and Valsartan (160 mg), an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB).  This fixed-dose combination helps relax blood vessels and reduce fluid-related pressure, making it effective in managing high blood pressure (hypertension). It is manufactured by Getz Pharma.

  • Provides dual mechanism to lower blood pressure (vasodilation + hormone blockage)
  • Once-daily dosing simplifies treatment and boosts compliance
  • Helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events (stroke, heart attack) when BP is controlled
  • Reduces workload on the heart, potentially improving heart health over time
  • Fixed-dose combination reduces need for multiple separate pills

  1. Take one tablet once daily, or as prescribed by your healthcare professional.
  2. It can be taken with or without food, but try to be consistent.
  3. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water — do not split, chew, or crush.
  4. Take at roughly the same time each day to maintain stable blood pressure control.
  5. Do not stop taking without consulting your doctor, even if your blood pressure starts to feel under control.

Q1: Can I take Covam 5/160 mg daily?
A1: Yes — the recommended usage is one tablet per day, as long as your doctor has prescribed that.

Q2: Why use a combination of amlodipine and valsartan?
A2: Amlodipine relaxes your blood vessels; valsartan blocks a hormone that constricts blood vessels — together, they lower blood pressure more effectively than either drug alone.

Q3: What are common side effects?
A3: Common side effects include dizziness, swelling (especially in ankles), headache, and fatigue.

Q4: Do I need regular monitoring while on this medicine?
A4: Yes — your doctor may monitor your blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes while you're on this medication.

Q5: Is it safe for everyone to use?
A5: Not exactly — it’s not recommended during pregnancy, and should be used with caution if you have liver or kidney issues.
