Systemic Therapy for Severe & Refractory Acne

Maxinoin 20 mg Capsules contain the active ingredient isotretinoin, a potent vitamin A derivative designed to treat severe, nodular, or cystic acne that has not responded to conventional treatments such as antibiotics, topical retinoids or hormonal therapies.
Isotretinoin works by significantly reducing sebum production, shrinking sebaceous glands, inhibiting comedogenesis, decreasing inflammation and altering microbial colonisation of skin.
Due to the magnitude of effect and risk profile, Maxinoin is typically reserved for treatment-resistant cases of acne, often when scarring, nodules or psychological impact are prominent.

  • Dramatically reduces sebum production and shrinks sebaceous glands — key driver in severe acne.
  • Helps clear nodules, cysts and comedones more effectively than many standard therapies, with potential for long-term remission.
  • Minimises risk of scarring and disfiguring lesions by intervening in aggressive acne early.
  • Oral formulation ensures systemic delivery — beneficial when topical therapies fail or acne is widespread.
  • Under proper supervision, supports clinical resolution and improved quality of life in patients with major acne burden.

  1. Confirm with your dermatologist that Maxinoin 20 mg is appropriate, perform baseline labs (lipids, LFTs), pregnancy test (for females) and counsel on side-effects.
  2. Take one capsule daily with a meal, or as prescribed (frequency may increase to twice daily depending on assessment). Food enhances absorption.
  3. Maintain use for the full course as prescribed — commonly several months (often ~4-6 months) to achieve meaningful remission.
  4. During treatment, use moisturisers/lip balm for expected dryness, apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, avoid excessive sun/UV exposure.
  5. Attend follow-up appointments for monitoring; do not discontinue abruptly without consulting your dermatologist.

1. What types of acne is Maxinoin 20 mg used for?
It’s indicated for severe, nodular, cystic or persistent acne that has not improved with conventional treatments such as oral antibiotics or topical regimens.

2. How soon will I see improvements?
Some reduction in breakouts may be evident within 4-8 weeks, but full remission and sustained results often require 4-6 months of consistent use under supervision.

3. Can women use this medication?
Women of child-bearing potential must only use this under a strict risk-management programme including contraception; pregnant women must not use it.

4. What common side-effects should I expect?
Dry lips, dry skin, dry eyes, nosebleeds, and increased sun sensitivity are expected. More serious risks (lipid elevation, liver enzyme changes, mood disturbances) require monitoring.

5. Will my acne come back after stopping treatment?
In many patients, isotretinoin offers long-term remission, but relapses can occur. Maintenance of skin-care, lifestyle factors, and follow-up treatments may be required.

Isotretinoin 20 mg, soft-gel capsule shell (gelatin/glycerin purified water etc), excipients as per manufacturing specification.

  • Prescription only — include comprehensive screening (lipids, liver enzymes, pregnancy status, baseline mood assessment).
  • Contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding or those planning pregnancy: isotretinoin is highly teratogenic. Strict pregnancy prevention must be implemented.
  • Regular monitoring of liver function, lipid profile and mood/mental health is essential — severe adverse effects may occur including mood changes, elevated lipids, dry skin/mucosa, visual/hearing changes.
  • Avoid donating blood during treatment and for a specified period after discontinuation; avoid waxing/laser/dermabrasion while on therapy.
  • Store at room temperature, in original packaging, out of reach of children; keep drug-programme documentation as required by local regulations.
