Advanced Non-Steroidal Therapy for Mild-to-Moderate Atopic Dermatitis

Crisabo Ointment 2% (crisaborole) is a cutting-edge, non-steroidal topical treatment for mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in children aged 3 months and older and adults. It operates as a selective phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor that helps reduce inflammation, itching, redness and skin barrier disruption.
Clinical trials demonstrated that twice-daily application significantly improved skin clearance (ISGA 0/1) in patients compared with vehicle and that the safety profile is favourable with minimal systemic absorption.
Crisabo offers a steroid-sparing alternative, making it a valuable option for long-term management of eczema especially when patients seek to avoid topical corticosteroids or calcineurin inhibitors.

  • Offers effective anti-inflammatory action via PDE4 inhibition without using steroids.
  • Helps reduce itching and redness, improving comfort and quality of life for eczema sufferers.
  • Suitable for long-term management, especially in patients wary of steroid side-effects.
  • Applicable across ages (children and adults) making it versatile for family dermatologic care.
  • Minimal systemic absorption → lower systemic risk compared to some other systemic therapies.

  1. Cleanse the affected skin area gently and pat dry.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Crisabo Ointment 2% to the affected eczema patches twice daily (morning and evening) unless otherwise instructed.
  3. Continue treatment regularly for the duration advised by your dermatologist (often at least 4 weeks) to assess improvement.
  4. If significant improvement is achieved, your dermatologist may reduce frequency to once daily for maintenance.
  5. Use in conjunction with appropriate skin-care (gentle cleanser, moisturiser, sun-protection) to optimise barrier repair and prevent flares.

1. What skin conditions does Crisabo Ointment treat?
It is indicated for mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in patients aged 3 months or older, helping control inflammation, itch and red lesions.

2. How soon can I expect results?
Some patients report reduced itching and improved skin appearance within 1-2 weeks of consistent use; full clearance may require 4-6 weeks or more.

3. Can it replace topical steroids or tacrolimus/moisturisers?
It offers a non-steroidal alternative and may reduce reliance on steroids or calcineurin inhibitors, but any change should be under your dermatologist’s guidance.

4. Are children eligible for this treatment?
Yes, clinical data support use in children as young as 3 months (or 2 years in some regions) with mild to moderate eczema.

5. What if I stop using it? Will eczema come back?
Eczema is a chronic, relapsing condition. Stopping treatment may lead to recurrence of symptoms; your dermatologist may recommend maintenance or intermittent use to manage flares.

Crisaborole 2% w/w, white petrolatum, propylene glycol, mono- and diglycerides, paraffin wax, BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), edetate calcium disodium, other excipients.

  • For external use only. Avoid broken, infected or ulcerated skin unless directed by your dermatologist.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, lips, mucous membranes — if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Although systemic absorption is minimal, evidence in pregnancy and breastfeeding is limited — consult your dermatologist if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Mild burning or stinging may occur on application, especially on raw or inflamed skin — monitor and discontinue if severe.
  • Store at room temperature, protect from direct sunlight and keep out of reach of children.
