Apixaget 2.5 mg Tablet – Trusted Blood Thinner to Prevent Serious Clots

Apixaget is a tablet that contains apixaban, a direct factor Xa inhibitor. It helps prevent blood clots by reducing the activity of a key protein in your bleeding cascade, making it useful in preventing stroke in atrial fibrillation, and treating or preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). 

The film‑coated tablet is small, pink, and easy to swallow. According to the manufacturer, for specific patients (e.g., elderly, low body weight, or impaired kidney function), the recommended dose is 2.5 mg twice daily.

  1. Take 1 tablet (2.5 mg) orally twice daily, or as prescribed by your healthcare provider. 
  2. Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food.
  3. If you cannot swallow the tablet, it may be crushed and mixed with water, apple juice, or apple puree, and taken immediately. 
  4. Take your doses at about the same times each day to maintain a consistent blood level.
  5. Do not discontinue the drug without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well.

Q1: Why would I take a low 2.5 mg dose instead of a higher one?
A1: The 2.5 mg twice‑daily dose is often prescribed for people who are older (≥ 80 years), have low body weight (≤ 60 kg), or impaired kidney function (high creatinine). 

Q2: Can I take Apixaget if I’ve just had knee or hip replacement surgery?
A2: Yes — it’s used for preventing blood clots after hip or knee surgery. The usual starting dose after surgery is 2.5 mg twice daily.

Q3: What common side effects should I watch for?
A3: Bleeding is the most likely side effect — nosebleeds, gum bleeding, bruising, or more serious bleeding can happen.

Q4: What if I miss a dose?
A4: If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember — but don’t double up. Return to your regular schedule. (Advice based on typical apixaban use.)

Q5: Is there food restrictions while taking Apixaget?
A5: No significant restrictions — you can take it with or without food.

Apixaban 2.5 mg, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose anhydrous, croscarmellose sodium, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate, film‑coating (pink).

  • Avoid use if there is active bleeding or a high risk of hemorrhage. 
  • Use with caution in severe liver disease (coagulopathy) — not recommended for severe hepatic impairment. 
  • If you have very low body weight (≤ 60 kg), are 80 years or older, or have high serum creatinine (≥ 1.5 mg/dL), a lower dose (2.5 mg) may be prescribed. 
  • Do not stop the medication abruptly — premature discontinuation may increase risk of clot formation. 
  • Use caution in patients undergoing spinal/epidural anesthesia or puncture — risk of hematoma.
  • Store at room temperature, below 30 °C, and protect from moisture.
